I would like to tell you about a project that I have had the privilege of working on for the last 15 months. 

It all started because of my attendance at an Institute for Healthcare Improvement conference in Nashville, Tennessee, in December 2008 when I, together with some 6000 people from around the world, heard about a pediatric trauma surgeon in Cincinnati, Ohio, who did something amazing. 

Consistently cited as one of the greatest benefits of EMR adoption, electronically receiving lab results, imaging reports, and hospital reports directly into the EMR enhances care and increases office efficiency.

1941–2010

Dr Basil Ho Yuen passed away at his home on 21 February 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He served the University of British Co­lumbia for over 36 years as teacher, clinician, researcher, and administrator. 

They took a leap of faith in the 1970s. Now, starting the 2010s with a new EMR, the Caledonian Clinic physicians share their experience.

Caledonian Clinic is a busy medical practice in Nanaimo with a radiology facility, a surgical room, and 65 full-time and part-time general practitioners, specialists, and staff. It is one of two or three of the largest private practice clinics in BC. 

A new report released in March by the BC Physician Health Program recommends better workplace arrangements for pregnant and new mother physicians. 

The report, Medicine and Motherhood: Can We Talk? recommends making accommodations for physicians who are pregnant, as well as physicians who are new mothers, to ensure that the record number of women entering medical practice are able to maintain their careers while attending to their needs as mothers.
