Supported by funds from the Shared Care Committee, many family and specialist physicians across BC are working together to improve health outcomes and the patient journey through the health care system. On 1 January 2012, the BC Medical Association introduced a new and improved term life insurance plan to its current insured members. What makes this change unique is that the BCMA has collaborated with the Al­berta Medical Association and Sas­katchewan Medical Association to establish a common plan design and leverage the combined membership of the three associations to improve coverage and reduce premium rates.

BC Children’s Hospital has announ­ced a new program, Too Hot for Tots, featuring a DVD and brochure to educate parents about the most common causes of childhood burns. More than 90% of burn injuries in children are considered preventable when safeguarding measures are taken.

The awards recognize individuals, health care teams, and facilities that have implemented measures or engag­ed in initiatives to improve the quality of care in BC.

The BCMA annually presents three $500 scholarships to children of BCMA members planning to pursue post-secondary studies in the following school year.

Eligibility
To apply, applicants must be:
•    The son or daughter of a BCMA member in good standing.
•    Completing, or have completed, high school and be planning to continue studies at a recognized post-secondary institution, such as a university, college, or technical school.
