Edmond (“Dr Ed”) was born in Tipperary, Ireland, the eldest son in a family of 11. He was educated by the Christian Brothers and entered medical school at Cork University in Oct­ober, 1965. He passed the final exam in the winter of 1972, receiving the degree of MBBCh from the National University of Ireland.

Following the sale of the publication, the new owners experienced difficulty securing advertising revenue, and the journal ceased publication in 2007.

The Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) has released new guidelines to help reduce rates of stroke and hospitalization of patients with atrial fibrillation. The Canadian Cardiovascular Society Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines 2010 will help Canadian physicians bet­ter recognize and treat atrial fibrillation, which affects 250 000 Canadians.
