On behalf of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, I thank the editor of the BCMJ for the opportunity to provide a response to Dr. H. Douglas Cooper’s letter to the editor regarding legal matters that affect all registrants, which were communicated in the recent College Connector.
I would like to express my concerns over two recent developments regarding the keeping of medical records.

In February 2013, the BC Medical Association and the Ministry of Health announced the development of the In-patient Care program, an innovative approach to supporting continuous physician-patient relationships in BC. Along with the Attachment initiative, also referred to as A GP for Me, the In-patient Care program is the most recent addition to a comprehensive suite of joint BCMA/Ministry of Health initiatives designed to strengthen BC’s primary care system.

My naturopath says I have adrenal fatigue and that I need my cortisol checked. He could send me but that would cost me money. I’m also thinking of taking bioidentical hormones, so I’d like this list of tests done since I am going to the lab anyway.”
“My chiropractor says I should get X-rays of my back before she treats me just in case there is a problem. She could send me for X-rays but I would have to pay. She also wants me to bring the X-rays to her for interpretation.”
