Re: Courts plugged with ICBC cases: Dr Richardson replies
I would like to thank the authors for taking time to respond to my editorial both online and in print.
First I would like to apologize to any chronic pain sufferers that I might have offended—this wasn’t my intention.
Second I would like to address a few points:
• I do not have a problem with lawyers.
• I do not believe that all accused individuals are “guilty scumbags.”
• I realize that the majority of ICBC cases never go to trial and that the majority of criminal cases are tried in the provincial court, not the Supreme Court.
The point of my editorial was that ICBC cases take up a significant amount of the Supreme Court’s resources, leaving less time to deal with serious criminal cases. My goal was to encourage a discussion about this issue, and I would like to thank you all for getting it started.
