Celebrating medical women leadership
Since its founding in 1924, the Federation of Medical Women in Canada (FMWC) has supported and fostered women in the profession of medicine and the health of women in general. The FMWC founded the National Pap Test Campaign, which engages the public and decision-makers to learn about and participate in HPV prevention and screening, and produced The Indomitable Lady Doctors for the organization’s Golden Jubilee project.
Celebrating 90 years since its founding, the FMWC will be holding its annual general meeting 19 to 21 September 2014 at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver. The theme of the AGM, entitled Women as Medical Leaders: Empowered, Engaged, Extraordinary, will be supported by sessions with Dr Jan Christilaw, president of BC Women’s Hospital; Dr Hedy Fry, member of Parliament; Dr Shelley Ross, former Doctors of BC president; and Dr Charmaine Roye, CMA director of professional relations and strategic health alliances. The FMWC will subsidize a large portion of the fee for the preconference workshop, “Quit Being Good, Be Great,” designed to encourage women physicians to become great leaders. The FMWC is also accepting abstracts from student and resident research projects for its inaugural Scientific Poster Session. For event and registration information go to https://fmwc.ca/agm.
