Dr Johannes V. Asfeldt

In our medical lives, perhaps our most valued assets are our colleagues. In rural general practice few are more valued than those in obstetrics. We will always be grateful for the privilege of having worked with Dr Johannes (Johs) Asfeldt.

About one in three Canadians will develop shingles (zoster) in their lifetime (with incidence increasing after 50 years of age), and up to 40% of zoster cases are associated with one or more complications, most prominently zoster ophthalmicus and post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). PHN is more common in older people, affecting 4% to 15% of zoster cases in people aged 50 to 59, 7% to 26% of cases in people aged 60 to 69, and 14% to 29% of cases in people 70 years and older.[1]
