Re: Biased information: BCMA Board Chair responds
In reply to Dr Carole Williams [BCMJ 2012;54:230], the question is, “Does the Board truly have the best interest of its members at heart?” Or put another way, “Does it acknowledge, research, and do its due diligence, when members have concerns about the running of the BCMA?”
Because the Board did not see the merit of the other side (pro term limits), it dismissed it and forced its proponents to reach the membership with their own financing, while it had free rein (literally and financially) to voice its shortsighted opinion at the expense of the membership.
I am not sure that our elected people know best. It is certain, however, that the pool of people interested in serving on the BCMA Board is limited, in part due to membership apathy. Therefore the turnover is slow, making it hard to renew the vision of our Association. The mere fact that one spends years on the BCMA Board does not guarantee competency to handle our affairs adequately. All I see again is arrogance from our leadership.
