Five projects by members of the UBC Faculty of Medicine have been selected to receive $6.2 million in funding from Genome Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The projects will be conducted over the next three years, working toward the following goals:

•    An analytical approach to detect variations and mutations in DNA and RNA to improve cancer care and diagnosis.
•    Development of innovative software to analyze mutations involved in cancer progression. 
•    Development of software that can understand and categorize the pieces of DNA that help turn genes on or off.
•    A method to identify auto-inhibitory switches through use of genomic and proteomic information. 
•    Software that will improve understanding of breast and ovarian cancer evolution and predict clinical results.
