The ballots for the referendum on the special resolutions to replace the BCMA bylaws related to governance were counted in May, and neither of the two special resolutions was accepted by enough members to change the bylaws. There were 2418 ballots cast; the results are as follows:
• 59.9% voted in favor of Schedule A, the special resolution to adopt the Appleton-Mackie proposed new bylaws, endorsed by the BCMA Board.
• 11.8% voted in favor of Schedule B, the special resolution to adopt the Slater-Chartrand proposed new bylaws.
• 28.0% voted against both new bylaw proposals.
As these bylaw changes required a 75% vote of the ballots cast to pass (per the BC Societies Act), the referendum failed to pass and the current governance structure remains unchanged.
