Seven Canadian physicians and two support workers are visiting Malawi and Nepal bringing hope and medical care to newborns, their mothers, HIV/AIDS patients, and people in palliative or end-of-life facilities. The team includes two BC physicians, Dr Aleco Alexiadis of Vancouver and Dr Ilona Hale of Kimberly.

The initiative is a joint venture of the Canadian Medical Foundation and World University Service of Canada to observe, listen, and share with local health care practitioners.

This is the second Canadian medical outreach caravan being deployed through the cooperation of the Canadian Medical Foundation and World University Service of Canada.

Each volunteer will spend an average of 4 weeks working directly with local health care practitioners and patients.

The Canadian Medical Foundation, founded by the Canadian Medical Association, is the only foundation focused solely on physicians.
