The research team for a hearing-health project [2] from the UBC School of Audiology and Speech Sciences [3] is seeking feedback from primary care providers through an online survey [4] to determine how to best support them in ensuring their patients with hearing concerns access hearing health care.
Hearing loss ranks third worldwide in disability-related loss of years of health and is one of the most significant contributors to the global burden of disease. Untreated hearing loss affects communication and health-related quality of life and is linked to social isolation, greater risk of falls, and reduced financial security. Up to 65% of adults in BC age 60+ will develop hearing loss. Fewer than 1/4 of these adults use hearing health care, with most delaying treatment.
Who is eligible to complete the survey? [4]
To complete this 15-minute survey, you must be a primary care provider (GP, family doctor, NP, primary care RN), or a recent retiree from the primary care field. Primary care providers can choose to enter a prize draw for one of 20 Amazon gift cards (valued at $250 each). More information about the draw is available through the survey link [4].
The research project Breaking Barriers [2] is being conducted by the UBC School of Audiology and Speech Sciences [3] in partnership with the Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility [5].
